Postgraduate Program in Agroecology - Professional Master

AGROECOLOGY:

The MPA's target audience is every professional who works or intends to work in Agroecology. As Agroecology is a cross-disciplinary, or interdisciplinary science, the Program will be available to professionals from various fields of knowledge. It will foster the productive relationship between professionals with extensive technical experience and newly trained professionals, committed to the family agroecological production and sustainable regional development. It will allow the exercise of participatory research and the exchange of knowledge, which presupposes an intimate and dynamic relationship with the farmers and their families.

ARE OBJECTIVES OF THE PROGRAM:

* To train and qualify professionals to meet the growing demand of agriculture on an ecological basis, regarding technical assistance, generation and validation of technologies, teaching and training of the actors involved with the model mentioned;
* Meet specific research demands in the context of family agroecological production;
* To stimulate the production and dissemination of scientific knowledge in Agroecology and its relation with other scientific areas, qualifying the students for the professional performance;
* Exercise participatory research with a systemic approach and transversal nature to build knowledge from the actors involved in this process (technicians, students, family farmers);
* Increase knowledge about the nature, functioning and indicators of quality and sustainability of agroecosystems;
* Support and enhance the Paraná Research Network in Agroecology;

COURSE HISTORY

The proposal for the creation of the Professional Masters in Agroecology of the State University of Maringá (UEM) started to be discussed and built in the environment of the Agroecology Group of Maringá (GAAMA), starting in 1998 and gained breadth with the creation of the Agroecology and (NADS) in 2004. It also contributed significantly to the establishment of the proposal, the creation and supply of the discipline of Agroecology and Sustainable Development in the Postgraduate Program in Agronomy (PGA) and the introduction of the discipline of Agroecology and Sustainability In the curriculum of the Undergraduate Course in Agronomy in 2010. An important milestone in this period was the creation of the Sector of Agroecology / Organic Agriculture in the Experimental Farm of UEM, destined to research and teaching in Agroecology and Organic Agriculture. There are approximately 10 ha, currently certified by ECOCERT. From its inception, from 2004 to 2011, it was certified by IBD.

Other facts were instrumental in reinforcing the pressing need for a Professional Master's Program in Agroecology. These include the creation of the "Organic Partners of the Northwest of Paraná" Project, in which EMAN / NADS, EMATER / PR, SEBRAE, Municipalities of the North and Northwest of the State, Organic Farmers Associations and NGO and the creation of the Paraná Agroecological Program. More recently, in 2012, the National Policy on Agroecology and Agronomy Agriculture (PNAPO) (Law 7.794 / 2012) is instituted in Brazil. In this respect, it should be noted that they are PNAPO instruments (Article 4):

I - National Plan of Agroecology and Organic Production - PLANAPO;
II - rural credit and other financing mechanisms;
III - agricultural and income insurance;
IV - agricultural and extractive prices, including mechanisms of regulation and price compensation in acquisitions or subsidies;
V - government purchases;
VI - fiscal and tax measures;
VII - scientific and technological research and innovation;
VIII - technical assistance and rural extension;
IX - vocational training and education;
X - mechanisms to control the agroecological transition, organic production and agroecological basis;
XI - systems for monitoring and evaluation of organic production and agroecological basis.

Emphasis is placed here on vocational training and education, research and scientific and technological innovation, technical assistance and rural extension, among others
